24 Sep How did we get here?
We are again joining our energy and belief in the power of the arts, free expression, and human rights for all during Fall of Freedom’s events October 2-4, 2026. We’re sharing a selection of virtual and in-person community events featuring Skylight team members and screenings of BORDERLAND | The Line Within. Please support these and other Fall of Freedom events happening in your community.
As we write this, a terrible ICE shooting occurred in Austin, Texas, and people are in the streets–and we are in solidarity–demanding that the victim, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, be given medical treatment for a gunshot wound and be released from ICE detention.
We continue to hear from people interested in activating BORDERLAND as a tool to understand how we arrived at this extreme moment, and the facts around how it is us, the taxpayers, that are paying for immigration enforcement cruelty. The film investigates the U.S. border-industrial complex and right now it is in high demand from Minneapolis to Los Angeles, Memphis to Chicago, as part of the movement to inform and strengthen people who are intent on stopping state violence against immigrant communities.
FALL OF FREEDOM EVENTS
Activating the Archive, Oct. 2, 2pm ET
Online, registration here
This event is hosted by The Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, led by our esteemed Skylight Board Chair Wendy Levy, and will feature Skylight team members Vaclav Masek and Valentina Vargas. “Activating the Archive” is a conversation about opening our collective archives, activating media and reimagining the future. Some of the ideas Skylight is working on and will present include how we preserve social media documentation of immigration repression and archive it for future accountability. How we celebrate our victories and mark our defeats of the past can create powerful ideas for the present.

Arthouse at Blue Star, Oct. 4, 3-6pm CT
