Vaclav Masek Sánchez is a Guatemalan sociologist and freelance journalist currently based at the Autonomous University of Barcelona as a Ph.D. Candidate at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology. His research follows climate justice movements transforming the political landscape of development discourse through grassroots organizing in Latin America. He writes for elPeriódico in Guatemala, and his opinion editorials and on-the-ground reporting have appeared in El País (Spain), NACLA (USA), and Plaza Pública (Guatemala), among others. As part of the Skylight team, his work as Community Impact Producer is to coordinate the outreach campaign for BORDERLAND (2024) across the United States.
