Vanessa Cuervo Forero
Coordinator, SolidariLabs Latin America
Vanessa Cuervo Forero is a cultural producer, dancer and impact strategist working at the intersection between art, activism and social justice. As a Community Weaver, Vanessa activates links between artists, activists and social leaders connecting the world of human rights defenders with the spheres of dance, theater and film to promote social change. For this reason, she is delighted to contribute to the strengthening of Skylight’s SolidariLabs Latin America network, supporting processes in Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico. After working with Doc Society on Good Pitch New York (2016) and Miami (2017), in 2018 Vanessa led the first Good Pitch Colombia, an innovative program that promotes social impact through film by connecting filmmakers and agents of social change to co-create impact strategies using films as effective tools for transformation. Vanessa currently supports the work of the Truth Commission in Colombia, as an advisor and trainer of the Historias en Kilómetros initiative, an audiovisual lab that supports the communication teams of three Afro-Colombian communities in Tumaco, Buenaventura, and Norte del Cauca, so that they can tell their own stories and contribute to the historical narrative of the country in times of peace building. Vanessa's continuous research and creative practice also investigates issues of identity, migration and collective memory rituals with a feminist lens.
